Belburns is a traditional fishing community protected by a natural wall of cliff, and Bound Brook flowing through the community. Residents depend on nearby Daniel's Harbour for most of its educational, recreational, and social facilities.

Community and business services for Bellburns include a K-12 school, Holy Cross all Grades and a public library with public internet access – Community Access Centre (located 5 kms south in Daniel's Harbour). A number of fishing enterprises work out of Bellburns and their fishing stores/sheds are located along the shoreline. In addition, recreational services are available in near by towns. Health care is provided in a local medical clinic in Daniel's Harbour with hospital services in Norris Point (110 kms south). A small community, the residents of Bellburns gets most of their business services from near by towns, i.e. Daniel's Harbour, Parsons Pond, Cow Head and St. Paul's.

The town has two sites where tourists and residents can enjoy a spectacular coastal view; School Hill Look Off and Coastal Look Off – just north of the town on Route 430, Vking Trail.
