On the Northern Peninsula we enjoy the outdoors to the fullest! If you are a person who loves the outdoor activities, the Northern Peninsula is the place for you. We have activities to suit everyone! If you enjoy new challenges and staying active, we have lots of Hiking/walking trails, beautiful rivers for canoeing or Kayaking, ski trails and lots of open space for a run or walk to clear your head! There is nothing like breathing in the cool crisp air!

If you just like being outdoors and taking in the scenery, maybe a boat ride, snowmobiling, going to the cabin and having an outdoor boil-up (a meal over a fire) would be more relaxing for you. Enjoy hunting and Fly-fishing? The Northern Peninsula is the prime destination!

We have a short summer season and the weather is not always hot but we love to make the most of those long summer days! Most summer days you can smell the freshly cut grass and BBQ cooking all over town.

We also have many festivals and community events for you to enjoy! These include the Gros Morne Theatre Festival and Lobster Festival in Cow Head;Anchors Aweigh in Rocky Harbour, Trails, Tales and Tunes Festival in Norris Point and the Big Droke Heritage Festival in Bird Cove. There is also an Iceberg Festival held in St. Anthony and Viking Festival in L'anse aux Meadows. The Woody Point Writers Festival is a national event, attracting world renown writers from across Canada. Annual community events include garden parties, Canada Day Celebrations in July and Bonfire Night in November.

Most of the organized recreation activities are run by volunteer groups in each community. If you are interested in getting involved in your new community, there are many ways you can participate as a volunteer. There is lots to do on the Northern Peninsula...You just have to get out there and find it!
