St. Carol's has also been known as French Bay and St. Charles and it is the closest to the fishing grounds of the north. The community was once the site of a minor fishing station for the French. A road was constructed in 1970; prior to that, the means of transportation was by boat. St. Carol's has a hiking trail that leads to John Patey's Cove where there is a great view of icebergs and whales.
